Curved Shower Bar

Curved Shower BarGrab Bars Bath - Safety for bathrooms

Grab bars in bathrooms have become the largest residential and accepted in recent years and are not just for people with disabilities or older as of old. This addition to the house can be a help to someone in your family regardless of age or physical condition.

With the disabled and the elderly, families with young children and even a pregnant mother will benefit from the additional security was added to enter and exit safely with bath or shower. We all know that slipping and falling on a surface damp bathroom is not fun and can be dangerous.

The first point here is to make sure we have the correct bar. Being that this is a wetland, most bars are stainless steel, but there are other choices moisture resistant, such as powder coat paint, brass and even different forms not quite resemble the curve over traditional institutional steel, although stainless steel is the most functional and cleans better.

ADA (American Disabilities Act) compliant bar are the only ones to use and are widely available and most are fairly simple to install by following the instructions provided with no shortcuts to ensure proper installation. When installed correctly, they are evaluated to withstand a 500 lbs. sweater.

Most bars come in different lengths of 12-48 inches for most lines, those with right angles and even those that can be customized if you have an unusual installation or specific situation. Diameters are 1 1 / 2 (commercial) and 1 1 / 4 inches with 1 1 / 2 inch clearance between the bar and the surface. The diameter of 1 1 / 4 inches is sufficient for residential use.

Some security bars can be folded in office, including those intended for use around toilets, which are then given the option to use, depending on who needs the bar or not, and there are little more temporary facilities the clamp on the side of a bathtub to help them get in and out.

The most important rule to follow for a permanent facility is that all safety grab bar must be attached to a frame wall of wood or a pre-placed block wall inside 2 x 6 or 8. dowels or bolts molly common are not acceptable and can be simply a problem or, worse, an injury later.

Having said all this, I know there is a wall anchor out there that meets construction standards and is called Toggler I personally have never used one of these but they are supposed to be acceptable for installation of grab bars in the absence of poles in the wall is available in the required position. This is an option to consider, if necessary, but the best way possible at all is to use the posts as the first choice.

Many bars are installed at an angle to match with the amounts, in addition to horizontal and vertical, and still allow the user versatility.

If you're in a remodel and they removed the old tub or shower, and opened the walls, then it would be the time to pre-placed 2x blocking between studs exact placement of bars later, just a little planning before investment will do for a safe installation in finishing the project. Just be sure to write the steps to locate the blocks aside to facilitate installation.

All these repairs and specialty items are now available to us that used to be, with little direction and the right tools, there is much we can do ourselves.
