Etymology
Kantha The word has no etymological root satisfactorily. The exact time of origin Kantha is not precisely known but it probably had a precursor in Kheta (khet Hindi and Bengali means "field"). According to the Zaman Niaz Kantha kontha word originated from Sanskrit word means rags Kantha is made of rags.
Kantha Tradition
Like any folk art making Kantha influenenced by other factors such as available materials, daily needs, climate, geography, economic factors. Probably the oldest form of Kantha was the work of Kantha Kantha patch and decorative-applied evolved from this.
Kantha literature
The earliest mention of Bengal Kantha is found in the book, "Sri Sri Chaitanya Charitamrita" by Krishnadas Kaviraj which was written some five hundred years ago.
Make Kantha
Traditionally ancient saree, dhoti Lungi and were used to Kantha. Kantha was not making a full-time employment and women in nearly all households were skilled in the art. Different types of Kantha
Niaz Zaman in his book The Art of Kantha embroidery kantha classified into the following categories of employees by location:

Sujunis Kantha: This Kantha is found only in Rajshahi popular motif used is hilly area.The floral and vine.

The point earlier and more fundamental point is kantha running. The predominant form of this point is called camphor or Kantha Kantha point. The other form of points used are punished or pattern darning, sewing Kaitya or folding, weaving, darning suture at the point of Jessore (a variant of the point of mending), threaded point before, or phor Lik anarasi or Hasia Ghar (point of Holbein).
