About Teak Teak wood comes from teak (Tectona or) trees. Teak is a tropical birch native to Southeast Asia. The tree can reach a height of about 30-40 meters and loses its leaves every year. Trees often live to age substantially, and have been known to live over 100 years. The tree is very hardy and can adapt to changes in time easily and is very flexible, allowing it to bend rather than break under Highwind speeds.
As part of its natural resistance, teak produces a special oil in his heart that is very resistant to water. This protects the teak tree rot, termites and other insects, and bacteria. Although the oil will protect the tree, it also contributes to man in making it easier to kill. Because of the thick fibers that make up the teak, the wood is relatively easy to carve forms useful or decorative. This special combination ofresilience and ease of use has greatly contributed to the popularity of teak. Due to the popularity of teak, the Indonesian government operates the teak plantation culture and conservation. The best teak trees to be cut are older and at least 40 years of age. Since trees take so long to "mature", it is important to regulate how many are harvested each year for many will be left for next season.
Before a tree can be harvested teak, all water must be drained from the tree. This is done by creating a cut around the base of the tree. The process is slow and can last up to two years before the tree is dry enough to be harvested and timber intousable. After it is dry and the harvest, teak can be used for materials to produce furniture and other consumer products.
Teak wood is used for other things as well as all the furniture. It is used for many common household items, like a bath mat teak . In Thailand, teak is used to produce whole buildings. Since the wood is so resistant to water, no sealant is required. places in India have been known to use teak for producing window frames and doors. Indonesia and Denmark use teak furniture for export toproduce, and there is a big chunk of their national income.
Perhaps the most notable use of teak wood is outside as furniture. He has a natural resistance to poor weather conditions, protecting furniture and contributes to longevity. Teak wood also has very dense form in such conditions for many years. It has also been used for the decks of ships, and because of its luxurious appearance, it can often be found aboard cruise ships.
